First Quad, Spring 2014

The greatest state was founded 1845 and the greatest fraternity was founded in 1824. Chi Phi is inspirational to a lot of the Brothers and Alumni.  This great organization molds boys into men, teaches respect, and also reminds us that we need to have fun while attending school. We hope the following semesters just get better and better.

Recruitment Time is Upon Us

Lambda Zeta Chapter

The brothers of Lambda Zeta would like to thank the Chi Phi Lambda Zeta Alumni Association for the experience of attending the 25th Anniversary Formal. Your support cp-stmu1enabled us to attend the event, while further encouraging us to become current with our financial obligations to the chapter, and for this we are truly grateful.

The chapter has been hard at work this year in service, fundraising, and social aspects. We offered our time to volunteer with many different organizations including The Boys and Girls Club, The Dream Center, and Youth for Human Rights International to name a few. Over $3000 was raised in fundraising ventures this past year. The chapter also spent time with various campus organizations.

The chapter recognizes and appreciates all that our alumni do for us whether it is participating in our fundraising events, offering their time and wisdom to the brothers and cp-stmu2pledges, or hosting events for all brothers to participate in. We ask that the alumni assist the chapter to continue to make great strides in advancing our organization. Twenty-five years at St. Marys’s University is an amazing achievement, but we wish to go for twenty-five more (and beyond).

Recruitment of new members is vital to the organization. Unfortunately, recruitment hits us at a time before we have made sufficient fundraisers and concurrently with the collecting of first semester dues. We can have a more effective recruiting process with your help. So we ask for alumni to donate any amount of money to be used for recruitment events and Rush Chi Phi apparel.cp-stmu3

  •  $50 pays for 5 prospects to be taken to Bandera Bowl for 2 hours of fun
  •  $150 would cover Rush Chi Phi shirts for the entire chapter.

Donations can be made via PayPal. It can be accessed on the www.chiphistmu.org page.

The chapter welcomes all feedback from any alumni. You may contact Sipriano Gonzalez with any questions at 956-272-4427 or sgonzalez13@mail.stmarytx.edu

Scramble to Support Our Youth – Golf Tournament

golf tee The Lambda Zeta Chapter of The Chi Phi Fraternity is organizing the Inaugural Scramble to Support Our Youth golf tournament, to raise funds for Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI). There is a situation today where men, women and children are being horribly abused. Bullying and cyber-bullying have these states at the top of the list for reported incidents: California, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Washington State.  3,000 children are abused each day in the USA and four of them will die. Forty percent of these children were under the age of six. 1.2 million children are trafficked across international borders into devastating abuse and bondage each year. It doesn’t have to be this way. Education is key.

The purpose of YHRI is to educate youth about human rights, specifically the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (drafted by the UN in 1948) and inspire them to become advocates for tolerance and peace. (www.youthforhumanrights.org)

The Chi Phi Fraternity is the oldest organized fraternity in the nation. Established in 1824, Chi Phi believes in Truth, Honesty, and Personal Integrity. In pursuit of these ideals, the Lambda Zeta Chapter has chosen to support human rights education through the programs of YHRI.

While human rights ignorance, neglect and abuse is a serious issue, the Scramble to Support Our Youth will be exciting and rewarding for all who participate. “Scramble” is a type of popular tournament format involving teams, creating lively interaction.

Youth for Human Rights and the Lambda Zeta Chapter are seeking your support to provide sponsorships for prizes to be awarded the winners, goodie bags for all participants and help to cover the costs of producing a great tournament. Everyone wins! Players will enjoy a terrific round of golf, plus side games, at a fantastic golf course; sponsors will be able to promote their products and services; and everyone involved will be helping our youth learn human rights, so they become less vulnerable—better able to defend their own rights and the rights of others.

YHRI is a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, therefore all contributions will be tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
